During junior high, students learn to actively apply what they know as they prepare to enter into the high school environment. Students learn to change classes and organize their lockers. Teachers continue to emphasize solid skills such as spelling, grammar, and math. Students learn how to gather information, communicate clearly, and present their ideas in an academic manner.
English lessons emphasize great books, including works by Charles Dickens, Mark Twain, and Harper Lee. In math, frequent repetition using the highly regarded Saxxon curriculum leads to mastery of new skills without leaving old ones behind. In social studies, students spend one year on the Western Hemisphere and one on the Eastern Hemisphere, thereby enhancing their global perspective. Earth science, life science, and physical science mirror courses students will investigate more deeply in high school.
