Hello Chop Point Family,
Thank you for your patience as we are putting plans into place for the upcoming weeks of school. We are approaching this time with calm and focus on how to keep our Chop Point family safe, healthy and educated.
Given the information that has been released from Maine CDC, and observing what is occurring in other states, we anticipate that within the next few weeks the State may ask schools to close for a period of time. We are thankful that the physical risk to our student population is very small. The risk of the students bringing the virus home to their parents and grandparents is what needs to be mitigated. Social isolation seems the best way to keep our health system from being overwhelmed.
Here is our current plan for the next few days:
Monday – we will be having a regular school day. At the end of the day, we will have students bring all of their school materials home with them and continue to do so each school day.
Tuesday – There will be no school for students. I will be meeting with staff and training them in the resources we will be using should we need to move Chop Point School online.
Wednesday– we will return to a regular school day until we hear word that we should close.
Our plan is to remain open until instructed to by the Department of Education or the Maine CDC. As an equivalent education, private school, we have the freedom to make our own decision, should that become necessary, but at this time we are confident in the guidance that is being given by the DOE and CDC.
Tuesday’s training day is to ensure that, if we are advised to close for any length of time, we will be able to continue educating your children with minimal interruption.
I am putting together a program that will allow us to maximize our daily interaction with our students, without putting a financial or technical burden on our families. I’ll release more details if it becomes necessary, but for now, if you have any device with reliable access to the internet, you should be all set!
Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
